I am not that fond of Seiji and Namie, but it’s not due to the sum of their compulsions; it’s the presence of obsessions that endanger to make them one-dimensional. One of the causes Baccano was so negative, despite the respectable execution of the nonlinear storyline, was that its character references were bothersome, one-dimensional types represented with a total absence of nuance. The other characters of Durarara haven’t been so unflavored that you expect them to remain ineffectual impersonations for the whole show, so when we experience Namie barely serviceable as a human being due to her obsession with Seiji, we can’t genuinely accept that she operates this company or ties her own shoe laces.
